A “Picky” Species

A specialist is scientists’ way of describing an organism when the organism has a very specific requirements on what it eats, where it lives…etc.  In other words, it is just a fancy way to say the organism is very “picky”.

Are humans specialists?  NO.
Although some people are picky about what they eat (example: some folks HATE broccoli), we are still very flexible in our diets, and we can live in places as cold as Antarctica to places as hot as the Tropical Deserts.

Niche

The word niche is a scientific term that describes the general “lifestyle” of a species, such as what it eats, where it sleeps, how it gathers food…etc.  Therefore, if one were to write about an organism’s niche, it would usually take a few small paragraphs to fully describe it.
